The national government has pledged to hold talks with devolved units in the north rift over the possibility of allowing athletes to use learning institution's fields for training.

This follows the ongoing construction works at the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret town which most of the athletes used as their training ground.

According to Sports Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia, local athletes should be allowed to use other available fields around the region to train.

"We're going to speak to county government's to assist in availing alternative grounds for our athletes since training has to go on even with this stadium under construction," noted Kaberia when he visited Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret on Saturday.

"There are good fields in this region like the one for Moi university school of law, University of Eldoret and the Eldoret National Polytechnic which I believe our athletes should be allowed to use," he added.

Training grounds for the athletes in the region has been a challenge since Kipchoge Keino stadium was closed to allow for its upgrading into the international standards.
