Doctors in the North Rift counties have called for a meeting with the security team in the region in a bid to discuss on measures they can take to enhance their security.
According to the region's Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Dr. Ismael Iyabei, doctors are worried of their security following the recent brutal murder of an intern doctor at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret town.
The doctor, Waithaka Mbugua, 25, was killed while at his house in Elgon view estate by unknown people a forth night ago.
Addressing the press at St. Luke's Hospital in Eldoret town, Monday, Dr. Lyabei reiterated the need for doctors, especially those on night duty to be provided with security by the police.
"Doctors nowadays fear to go to work at night and this is why we are calling for a meeting with the security team so that we can make arrangements on how doctors will be protected," Lyabei said.
"We are giving dialogue a chance so that we can meet and agree on how our security will be guaranteed," added Kenya Medical Association (KMA) Eldoret division chairman Joseph Abuya.
