Farmers from Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Trans Nzoia counties have condemned their elected leaders for sidelining them while they are suffering.
Led by Uasin Gishu Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) director Kipkorir Menjo, the farmers expressed concerns that it is only the Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren who has been championing for their rights during hard times.
“As farmers from this region we are really disappointed with our leaders, we elected them to represent our problems and not to stay mum,” said Menjo during a farmers meeting that was attended by Uasin Gishu elected leaders in Eldoret town, Monday.
“What we hear and see on both Radio and TV is our leaders fighting our farmer's ambassador Silas Tiren, we want them to be united for them to fight for us instead of always politicizing the maize issue. Let us put politics aside until 2022 and solve farmer’s issues,” he added.
Menjo however, called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene for them to be paid their money by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
He also called for a thorough investigation on the NCPB maize scandal and said stern actions should be for those involved.
The meeting was attended by Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago, MPs Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Caleb Kositany (Soy), William Chepkut (Ainabkoi) and Janet Sitienei (Turbo), and Uasin Gishu Senator Margaret Kamar.
