The chair of the North Rift Herbalists Association Julius Kiprono speaking during the on-going Medicinal Herbs Exhibition in Eldoret yesterday said that the University of Eldoret has partnered with them to ensure that the herbalists produce safe herbal products for human consumption.
“The University of Eldoret will now offer certificates, diploma and degree awards to all the herbalists who will enrol for their short courses there,” said Kiprono.
He said that the University will train the herbalists on the best methods and different medicinal plants that are safe for human consumption.
After successful completion of the course, the herbalists will be issued with certificates indicating their level of qualification and this will give the public confidence to go herbalists for medication,” said Kiprono.
Kiprono urged the residents of Uasin Gishu County to be careful when dealing with the herbalists since there are many of them who are not qualified to administer medication.
"Most of them out there are tarnishing our names since they are not qualified and they do not even know what they are doing in the field. I strongly call upon all the herbalists out there who do not have the much needed qualifications to stop administration of herbal medication on patients,” said Kiprono.
He urged other herbalists who are not trained to join them for professionalism.
