Led by Shem Odwoka and Joseph Gichinga, the contractors lamented that most of them are now facing debts in financial institutions due to the delay.

“We’ve been contractors since 2014 and our problem with payments begun in 2016 towards 2017. Some of us have debts, others have bank loans. The company owes us millions of shillings, some have one million, others two million and even there are those waiting for Sh10 million,” said Mr. Odwoka in Eldoret on Saturday.

“They always take us in circles yet they have the money, the work we did is seen and it’s up to them to fulfill their part of the bargain,” Gichinga added.

They urged the Kenya Power managing director Dr. Ken Tarus to move in and ensure their payments are released as soon as possible.

Responding to the issue, Kenya Power North Rift Director Bett Kimutai promised to convene an urgent meeting with the contractors so that they can solve the stalemate amicably.

“I’ll call for a meeting with them so that they can clearly bring out the issues that they are feeling unhappy then we can address them as they must be very specific, they may not be common to all of them. As long as the work was done when it gets to finances, we will release the payments,” he said.
