Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has condemned the North Rift region elected leaders for failing to represent farmers interest.
Tiren said, the politicians only show up to farmers during electioneering period and thereafter vanish.
"I am really disappointed with the members of parliament from this region because they don't support farmers either in parliament or outside parliament. As I am talking, farmers have not been paid their dues by the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) yet no one is talking," he said in Eldoret town, Monday.
"How do they expect farmers to be helped yet they are mute? I want to call upon leaders from this region to wake up and fight for the rights of our farmers," added the Moiben MP.
He, however, called upon the National government to ensure that farmers get enough fertilizers on time amid planting season.
"It’s sad that our Eldoret NCPB depot is filled with CAN fertilizers which are used for top dressing instead of DAP which is meant for planting. I want to call upon the government to save the situation by supplying more DAP fertilizers for farmers to plant their crops," noted the MP.
