Led by Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of majority Josphat Lowoi, Elgeyo-Marakwet's Wilson Boit and Nandi County's Julius Menjo, they said the region accommodates all tribes.

"The Moi University VC matter has been trivialized thus branding us as tribalistic, what we wanted is the VC to be appointed on merit," they said.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday they wondered why the Ministry of Education appointed Prof Laban Ayiro on an acting capacity despite interviews being conducted and winners clearly announced.

"We are demanding balancing in appointment of university VCs since Kenyans are equal," they added.

The leaders however condemned NCIC chairman Francis Ole Kaparo who alleged that the leaders against Prof Ayiro's appointment were being tribal.

"The aim of Kaparo is to divide us along tribal lines which is dangerous, such utterances are uncalled for. Why is he putting on fire instead of putting it off?"

They however urged North Rift residents to live harmoniously with each other no matter their background.
