Speaking in Kwale on Saturday during the homecoming party of Kwale Deputy Speaker Andrew Mulei, the lawmaker said that the second in command is riding on the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto to dismantle ODM.

He said that the leaders should think twice before backing Ruto as he seeks to take over power from President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

“I ask them (ODM rebels), if they support Raila Odinga, who is now with President Uhuru, why should they then go to the DP when they are more close to the presidency?” posed Mr Kamket.

Several leaders have since declared their support including Malindi’s Aisha Jumwa. Jumwa has since been faulted for betrayal.

She has, however, insisted that she has done nothing wrong for backing Ruto.

Kwale Speaker Sammy Ruwa, Women Representative Zuleikha Hassan and a host of MCAs want the rebels punished for failing their people.

The change of tune among the leaders has raised many ripples in the political scene. Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has decided to stay away from succession politics as he cogitates on his next move.
