Construction works for a High Court in Nandi county will begin in January 2018.
This is after the county government of Nandi allocated a piece of land to facilitate the setting up of the court which will be the second High Court in the North Rift region.Currently, Uasin Gishu is the only county with a High Court in the North Rift, stationed in Eldoret town.
Speaking after he was handed documents for the land by Nandi Governor Cleophas Lagat at Kapsabet on Friday, Chief Justice David Maraga said the judiciary was working towards ensuring each county has at least one High Court.Maraga said already Sh367 million has been allocated to facilitate the construction of the High Court in Nandi.
"Under the High Court Act, each county is supposed to have a High Court station and Nandi is among the counties without the High court but we are glad locals will soon get those services here," noted the Chief Justice.
"The procurement process is ongoing and the tendering process will have been finalized by December and we hope to start construction of the High court in January," he added.
The Judiciary will also construct Magistrates Courts in Songor and Kabiyet in its plans to take services closer to mwananchi by setting up the courts in each sub county across the country.
