Kenyan politics is a field for the witty, wise and visionary. That is without forgetting cunny and opportunistic.Since the introduction of multi-party democracy in the 90s, the political temperatures in Kenya have seen a lot of turmoil that has left many in awe more so with regards to betrayals and backstabbing. Here is a sample of some of the most notable political betrayals.
1. Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga
Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga have had a long and rough without mentioning patchy relationship politically. In the run-up to the 2007 general elections with Orange Democratic party being front-runners after a successful bid in rejecting the 2006 Amos Wako draft constitution, Kalonzo and Raila were sailing in the same boat. But some few months to the election, Kalonzo would long his own political bid under ODM-Kenya, a move that many say denied Raila the presidency that year.
2. Raila Odinga and William Ruto
William Ruto in 2007 after successfully bringing on board the whole of Rift Valley province into ODM had expected that he would be rewarded at least with the running mate position. This, however, would not be the case as Raila Odinga chose Musalia Mudavadi. This betrayal would eventually lead to their break up in 2009 over the Mau forest issue and sacking of Ruto as minister for Agriculture.
3. Raila Odinga and Isaac Ruto
In the run-up to last year's general election, the National Super Alliance (NASA) was formed to rival Jubilee's bid for the presidency. Among the names to be mentioned as a co-principal was then Bomet Governor, Isaac Ruto who had ditched Jubilee coalition due to his differences with deputy president William Ruto. Many Kenyans and NASA followers would raise questions about the inclusion of Isaac Ruto but still would keep the faith that all would end well. It was later after a loss of to Jubilee in the nullified August 8th elections that their fears would be confirmed. Isaac Ruto would jump ship back to Jubilee leaving NASA scorned.
4. Raila Odinga and NRM
After the boycott of last year's repeat election on basis of lack of transparency, NASA formed a resistance wing that they christened NRM to keep the government on its toes. Eventually, NRM would come up with the idea of 'swearing in' Raila and Kalonzo as 'People's president and deputy president'. This would however not come to being, after several postponements the event would eventually be absconded by other NRM principals; Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula, and Musalia Mudavadi. Raila would be 'sworn in' alone and left with utterly no shoulder to lean on.
