Lawrence Odhiambo was charged alongside Kennedy Ochieng that on diverse dates between July 16, 2015 and September 29 together with others not before the court, armed with crude weapons, attacked a businessman fleeing with valuables worth Sh40,000.

The two accused persons who had been in hiding were arrested by police after a tip off from members of the public who reported an ongoing robbery at Kaptembwa area leading to their arrest.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate David Kemei, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges urging the court to be released on reasonable bond terms.

State counsel, Hillary Songoyo, opposed the bond application on grounds that Lawrence Odhiambo is facing four other similar charges before the trial court. He added that Odhiambo is a flight risk and he is a threat if released since he was involved in a fierce shootout with the police before his arrest.

"The first accused is a flight risk and by the virtue him being involved in a shootout with the police he is a threat if released," said Songoyo.

Chief Magistrate David Kemei in his ruling denied bond to the accused and directed that the case be consolidated with the other robbery cases that he faces in the other courts.

The case was slated for mention on November 7 to confirm consolidation of the other cases.
