Area police boss Michael Lesmum confirmed the arrest and said the rider was arrested on Tuesday evening on his way from Enderi village with chang’aa on his motorbike.

“The rider has been using his motorbike to transport illicit brews. He was involved in a road accident and the local chief who went to the scene recovered 200 liters of chang’aa the rider was transporting,” said the police boss.

Lesmum added that the rider was immediately arrested by the chief and surrendered to police officers.

“The suspect is in custody and he will be arraigned in court on Thursday. For now we are interrogating him so that he can give the names of the illicit brewers he has been colluding with,” he noted.

He warned boda boda riders against colluding with illicit brew dealers and drug dealers saying the law will not spare them.

Lesmum called on local chiefs in the region to intensify the crackdown on illicit brews.

He urged police officers working at road blocks to inspect any luggage the riders are ferrying and arrest those found ferrying chang’aa.
