The government has commissioned 1,050 modern housing units for use by police and their families in an ongoing modernization of the National police Service (NPS).
In a tweet by acting cabinet secretary for the internal security ministry Fred Matiang'i ,the government has pledged to bridge the existing housing gap among the disciplined forces.
"The Government’s resolve to bridge the existing housing gap among the disciplined forces remains and is on course," read the tweet.
The 1,050 modern housing units are part of the government's Phase One pilot project that seeks to provide 1,850 modern housing units to the police force, according to Matiang'i's tweet.
Matiang'i has said in another tweet, the construction of the remaining 800 units is ongoing and completion is set for February 2018.
"This is Phase One of a pilot project that seeks to provide 1,850 modern housing units to the police force; with construction of the remaining 800 units ongoing, and completion set for February 2018," read another tweet by the CS.
This is a government effort to bridge the over 90,000 housing units gap among disciplined forces which is also in line with president Uhuru Kenyatta's government plan to achieve countrywide mass housing production of affordable 500,000 units in the next five years.
