Nominated Senator Martha Wangari has asked the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) to expedite on the recruitment of the new Inspector General of Police (IG) following the resignation of David Kimaiyo.
Speaking to reporters at a Nakuru hotel during a youth sensitization workshop, the senator said that the replacement should be rushed to address the vacuum created by the resignation.
She insinuated that speedy replacement will curb any form of insecurity and help address the rise crime across the country.
The senator stated that the resignation of Kimaiyo shows the many challenges being experienced in the police force.
“The NPSC should move with haste and ensure Kimayo’s replacement is done quickly,” she said.
She said that rising insecurity in the country is a concern that should be addressed by all leaders despite their political affiliations.
Wangari said that promoting security is a responsibility of every leader and that they should stop side shows and work together for the sake of the county.
The senator said that time has come for the leaders to focus on addressing insecurity and assure Kenyans of their safety.
Wangari condemned the recent Mandera attack where 36 quarry workers were massacred by suspected Al shabaab militants.
“It is so unfortunate that our innocent people continue to die in the hands of evil terrorists,” she said.
Wangari also called on Kenyans to commit the country in prayers in the wake of increased crime and terror attacks.
