The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has suspended 127 officers from duty, following a successful police vetting exercise.
NPSC chairman Johnston Kavuludi said those suspended are among the 904 traffic officers that were vetted recently in Coast, Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western Kenya regions.
36 of the suspended officers are from Coast, 18 from Nyanza, 50 from Rift Valley, and 23 others from Western Kenya.
Kavuludi clarified that the Commission reached at suspending the officers, after they failed to explain their source of wealth, while some walked out of the vetting sessions, in fear of being questioned.
"Unexplained financial transactions, sending and receiving of money from fellow police officers in the Traffic Department and operating matatu businesses are among the reasons that informed their removal.''
NPSC also reinstated six out of 20 officers who had previously been sacked but asked for a review of their results had been reinstated.
The six include: former Administration Police (AP) spokesman Masoud Mwinyi, Daniel Chacha, Festus Malunge, William Kariuki Ngugi, Japheth Ngato and William Meto.
Kavuludi however did not release names of 72 officers who he said the vetting panel was still observing them and going through their documentations before reaching at a final decision.
"Twelve officers failed the vetting review, while one applied to retire. Another one is awaiting conclusion of a Court case, which she filed against the Commission,'' said the NPSC chairman, Tuesday.
He further warned that the police vetting exercise will continue, this time targeting officers attached to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
