National Super League (NSL) Champions Vihiga United have released a record twelve players.

Among the released is former AFC Leopards defender Martin Imbalambala, reports Soka.co.ke.

The team was promoted to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) and will make a debut next month when the 2018 KPL season kicks off, after finishing top of NSL last year, ahead of the second promoted team Wazito FC.

The players have been released a few weeks after coach Edward Manoah resigned.

He resigned shortly after leading the team to KPL, citing the club’s leadership unwillingness to renew his contract which was to end in April this year. The team is being sponsored by the Vihiga County Government.

Vihiga United was initiated under former Vihiga County governor Reverend Moses Akaramga.

Here is the list of all the players released by Vihiga United.

Goalkeepers:  Franklin Mwenda, Gilbert Munai.

Defenders: Martin Imbalambala (Formerly AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz), Oscar Omwami, Gideon Abucheri, Johnson Kidambu, Nelson Asena

Forwards: Lucas Weitere, Aquinas Muteshi, John Ouma, Keiphas Mutuu Ugandan Rashid Kyambadde.

The club is now in the process of signing new players who will be unveiled in the coming days.

Vihiga United will open 2018 league campaign against 2008 champions Mathare United on February 3.
