The National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has blamed the Kenya police for the existence of rogue drivers on Kenyan roads.
This comes after the traffic commandant accused NTSA of issuing fake licences to unqualified drivers who have contributed to major road accidents. NTSA has said that the police are still the responsible authority that determines not only who holds a licence but also the quality of drivers in the country.
"All examiners of driving schools are police officers as we are yet to take up that mandate. They are the ones who decide who passes and who fails then they upload the details in the system before NTSA issues a licence," said NTSA director general in charge of licensing and registration, Jacqueline Githinji.
Githinji further went ahead and stated that the police officers tampering with results will be denied entry to the E-citizen platform and action will be taken against the driving school. This comes after the authority revoked licences of 69 drivers’ countrywide with 53 of them coming from one driving school.
According to NTSA, the 53 had failed their tests earlier but went back to the system and changed their results to appear as if they had passed. The 69 were part of the 80 list of drivers submitted to the authority as rogues from the traffic commandant office of Jecinta Muthoni.
