[Photo|newz.ug]The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has banned vehicles with South Sudan number plates in the country.NTSA Operations Manager, Bora Guyo has said the banned number plate series CE, EE, SSJS, UNS, WS and NBGS following a communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The flashy fuel guzzler vehicles bearing South Sudanese number plates have become a common on Kenyan roads as many of its nationals reside and do business in the countryNTSA's directive follows move by the South Sudan government which nullified number plates series starting with CE, EE, SSJS, UNS, WS and NBGS, and replaced them with nationalised country code SSD as the only recognized code."We have received communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in regards to nullification of some South Sudan number plates and we are consulting on the modalities of implementing the directive," said NTSA.Since 2005, South Sudan has had varied registration codes for its ten states until March 2017 when the government introduced a nationalized country code.In a communication on Thursday, NTSA also asked all foreign motor vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are in the country with proper documentation and have valid foreign motor vehicle permit as required under the Traffic Act.
