NTSA Director General Francis Mooke has pledged to form the county NTSA committees to enhance public safety in the grassroots, where he said people have been violating traffic rules as there is no one to supervise them.
Meja said that the committees will work closely with the county governments’ Transport department and the Traffic police to ensure the deaths on the roads are reduced.
The Director said that there is also need to overlook on the traffic police officers who are overwhelmed with corrupt acts on the roads, thus making the drivers break rules regularly as they bribe the officers.
Meja added that congestion needs to be eased in Thika Road Town, as the roads are making transport a load for the people using them, adding that on the same roads, inspections will be enhanced to make sure any vehicle using the road is roadworthy.
On his part, the Deputy Traffic Commandant of Kenya traffic Pius Thomas said that everyone has a responsibility and role to play in the safety of the road users.
He called on the authorities to partner with his department to conduct rallies, to ensure the public are sensitized on the same, thus called on them to use footbridges extensively and avoid putting posters on the footbridges as most of them have been turned into markets by hawkers.
