The National Transport and Safety Authority has come out to denounce claims that speeding drivers were forced to carry placards indicating they broke traffic regulations.
This is after photos of drivers circulated online showing alleged drivers carrying placards for breaking the law during the December holidays.
NTSA Deputy Director John Munya has said the photo that largely circulated online are fake as the authority did not authorize such punishment.
“We did not force anyone to do anything. We told them to choose between going to court and lifting the placards and they chose the latter. The authority is not out to punish anyone. What we do is sensitise the drivers to instill discipline on the roads," said Munya.
The transport regulator in December devised a new way of punishing traffic offenders at Sachangwan black spot on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.
“We literally let the speeding drivers get out of their cars and educated them on why they shouldn’t speed and why they should maintain lane discipline. We then let them weigh their options,” he said.
