The National Transport Safety Authority has responded to the tragic accident at Soysambu area, in Nakuru that killed 20 people.
According to NTSA, the accident was caused by reckless driving.
NTSA Director General Francis Meja said the bus was plying on the wrong route and preliminary crash analysis indicated that the bus was recklessly overtaking at a descent.
“The bus was overtaking a trailer without sufficient clearing distance which resulted in the driver going back into the lane to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming trailer.This miscalculation resulted in the oncoming trailer colliding with the right side of the bus ripping it of,” said Mr Meja.
The driver of the ill-fated bus is as at large and police have launched a manhunt.
