The NTSA patrol along the Kisii Kilgoris road today has seen many matatus evade the main road and start plying on murram roads(panya routes)
The traffic police commander in Kisii Mr James Ekweye has attributed most of the road accidents in the route to lack of regard for traffic rules by motorists and has vowed not to relent in the crackdown.“We are not going to allow the operators to conduct their businesses with impunity. They must obey the new traffic rules,” Ekwenye after his men had started impounding unroadworthy vehicles and careless drivers.
He said most of the vehicles impounded were operating illegally because their drivers had no licenses or they were not yet renewed for those who had and the vehicles had no valid insurance covers
Other matatu drivers started hiding from the main road because many of them know their mistakes but still continue operating on the road
The traffic commander also blamed owners for not ensuring that their drivers and vehicles meet the standards before they start operating on the road.
