Nakuru senator Susan Kihika has hit out at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)  over the increased cases of road carnage.

Kihika said the government had established the body to help fix road madness and ensure that accidents are a thing of the past on Kenyan roads.

This has not been the case however, in contrary, Kenyans have witnessed increased road accidents along known blackspots.

Kihika said this is as a result of NTSA losing direction on its mandate.

"It is sad that NTSA apparently lost direction on its core policy mandates and diverted to enforcement knowing it had neither capacity nor personnel," Kihika said.

She added: "It got attracted by bribes and corruption in this area."

The senate Majority Whip said a move by NTSA to ban night travel after the Migaa accident which left 37 dead is 'foolhardy'.

"Banning of long distance public travel is double-edged and foolhardy - it will only make Kenyans suffer more," she said.

Kihika calls for the overhaul of NTSA and disciplinary measures to rogue drivers as a way to fix the increased road accidents.
