National Transport and Safety Authority's newly absorbed police officers have complained of pending allowances.Speaking on Saturday, one of the officers said the allowances have dropped from Sh.35000 when they were absorbed to Sh. 14000 which they haven't received yet."We need a proper payment structure even it means all of us get paid Sh10,000. The variations, together with a 'shamble contract', is discouraging," the officer said as quoted by the-star.co.keThe police complained of intimidation and harassment by seniors saying they execute their duties responsibly but get nothing in rerurn."We work round-the-clock running after drunk drivers at dangerous zones but get nothing in return. What we write are statements which have no basis," he added.The NTSA director general Francis Meja, however, said he has so far received no complaints from the police officers concerning the intimidation by seniors.He also said the every police officer knows the proper procedure to follow in case of any grievances. "I have not received any complaint from any cop. If they have any grievances, they know the channels to follow." Mr. Meja said.NTSA recently announced that it will fight against corruption among its police officers and inspect all vehicles at same rates.
