According to the NTSA, truck drivers have been violating road safety rules by overloading. The NTSA also said the trucks hinder other motorists on the road.

"We have been receiving many complaints about the trucks. They are a hindrance to the other motorists. They also pose a risk to the motorists in circumstances where they leave the sand uncovered. This sand can be easily blown away by the wind and blur the vision of other motorists which can lead to accidents. This also causes a health risk to the motorists,’ said NTSA Director General Francis Meja.

He said some trucks, mostly those of construction firms, carry construction materials which are not covered which keep falling on the roads as the trucks go uphill.

Meja pointed out that trucks which carry over 10,000kgs of loads will be fined Sh200,000 if he is a first time offender but pay Sh400,000 if he will be found to be a subsequent offender.
