The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has been called upon to step up in enforcing traffic rules, more so in Kisii- Nyamira highway in order to reduce the number of accidents that have been witnessed in the past few months.
According to some of the residents along the highway, they fear for their lives as there are many drivers in the area breaking the traffic rules to the latter, causing more deaths.
“For instance, the case where a driver caused an accident at Sironga area along the highway and he was allegedly drunk, and am sure such cases can be reduced or dealt with completely if the authority wakes up for their mandate,” said Edward Mogoi, a resident at Sironga
Griffins Mokaya, another resident at Konate area; along the highway, said the laxity of officials from the transport industry has increased the number of accidents in the area and they need to wake up and get to work.
When contacted, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) county director Agnes Masi said that they are currently deploying more officers on the highway to cab the rising accident incidents.
“We already have the report and we will ensure there is sanity along the highway and the residents will be safe,” she added.
