The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) will not extend the deadline set for PSV operators to comply with the cashlite system.

NTSA Chief Executive Officer John Muya says that stern action will be taken against those who fail to beat the December 1 deadline.

“Unlike before, the central Bank of Kenya and service providers had agreed on an implementation policy for this system and now we have six approved service providers. I urge you all to take advantage of all this for your own businesses good,'' said Muya.

He pointed out that those who have embraced the system in Nairobi are reaping more profits compared to when they were collecting cash.

The CEO said that the system helps PSV operators maintain proper records of their vehicles. He added that NTSA will continue holding regular training workshops where PSV operators will be given an opportunity to interact with speed governor suppliers and other stakeholders in the automobile sector.

“Such workshops are always important in ensuring that PSV operators maintain their vehicles at all times,'' said Muya.

While restating the need to have self-regulation in the PSV sector, Muya said that all PSV Saccos will be audited in line with the Cooperatives Societies Act.

Muya was speaking at a PSV operators stakeholders meeting in Nakuru.
