Stephen Ntutu, the incumbent Narok senator, will not seek reelection in August, a move which is believed to be strategic to his brother and Narok West MP Patrick Ntutu’s quest for Narok governorship.

Arguably the most seasoned politician in the contemporary Maa politics, Ntutu served as Narok South MP for two consecutive terms (1997-2007) before making a comeback to the senate in 2013.

A fierce critic of Narok Governor Samuel Ole Tunai, Mr. Ntutu is believed to be behind his brother’s quest for Governorship and has often questioned alleged mismanagement of resources in the region.

His seat has attracted high profile politicians among them lawyer Ledama Ole Kina (ODM), Narok South MP Nkoidila Ole Lankas (Jubilee), Albert Kimingin  and Andrew Sunkuli who will vie as an independent.

Recently, Tunai accused his Bomet counterpart Isaac Rutto of allegedly meddling in Narok County politics by supporting young Ntutu’s bid.

“He should know boundaries of Narok and Bomet. I am tired with his political maneuvers in Narok,” Tunai said on Friday.

With also resistance from former ICT Principal Secretary Joseph Tiampati of ODM, Tunai’s political future hangs on thread.

Mr Ntutu will be flying Chama Cha Mashinani ticket, a party closely associated with Governor Isaac Rutto of Bomet.
