Footage of anti-riot police assaulting University of Nairobi students has made rounds all over social media and many are calling for the responsible to be held accountable.

As a result  Inspector General Joseph Boinett has been asked to take action after several reports of police abuse.

NTV reporter Ken Mijungu has given the IG a seven day ultimatum to take action, threatening to resign should he fail to do so.

“As a Kenyan citizen I am taking a moral high ground on police brutality. After watching several of the video especially of the police tear gassing students in their hostel, I am asking the IG Boinnet to take action on the police within 7 days, arrest and prosecute. If he doesn’t I will resign. There is no moral obligation to continue reporting on the same thing time and again without translating to something. It’s useless and frustrating,” his Facebook post read.

The reports of police assault on the university students has drawn strong criticism all over social media.

The university students protested the arrest of former SONU chairman and now Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
