Nubian residents in Kisii County have welcomed the electricity installation project in the area by the county government.
According to the area Chief Davis Mosoria, the electrification will help the community run businesses for longer hours, and also reduce the insecurity levels that were on the rise in the area.
Eric Manoti, a resident in the area also said they welcome the move by the county government to fund the project, saying it will at least see them use electricity after being in the dark for long.
“We are happy with the county government, this would have taken us time if we were to do it individually, but for now every person is assured that he will light up electricity in his home,” said Manoti.
The electricity installation in Nubia area kicked off a few days ago, after Governor James Ongwae launched the installation exercise that will see all the area residents get electricity.
The initiative is being carried out by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company in collaboration with World Bank's Global Partnership Output Based Aid (GPOBA) Programme.
The programme targets informal settlements and low income areas, and aims to provide safe, legal and affordable power connection to residents in these areas.
