Nubians in Kibera are set to file a petition in the High Court against the Kenyan government for sidelining them in the issuance of national identification documents.
According to Shariff Ali, the chairperson of Kibera Nubian community the state has been subjecting them to unnecessary frustrations unlike other citizens from different communities in the country.
"The Nubian community will sue the government for openly denying us identification documents. A number of our youths have failed to secure jobs or even go for higher education due to the lack of the said documents," said Shariff.
The chair further expressed his dissatisfaction on how government security agencies are treating their youths, noting that they are being treated as foreigners or terrorists.
"The security systems have been frustrating our youths. We are not terrorists, we want the state to treat us like other Kenyan citizens. We are Muslims, yes, but also of Kenyan citizenry," he added.
