With over 3 million Kenyans facing starvation, the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) continues to support those affected across the affected counties. In an update, the Society's Secretary General Dr Abbas Gullet indicated they have been able to help out starving families through cash transfer programmes, animal destocking, distribution of food and water, and providing sanitation and hygiene services.So far, Kenya Red Cross Society says 231,216 beneficiaries have been reached through the ongoing cash transfer programme.132,546 beneficiaries have been reached through food distribution.55,287 people reached through integrated medical outreaches.798 cows and 8,052 sheep and goats have been bought, slaughtered and the meat distributed back to vulnerable communities to counter starvation.-25 boreholes rehabilitated benefiting 97,599 people, and 218,100 livestock.A total of 26 arid and semi-arid Counties have been experiencing drought since late last year, but some of them however have recently been experiencing floods and destruction of property, after rains started early this month.
