Kenya has maintained that the number of refugees in the country is too high to manage and as a result repatriation of refugees will go on.
Speaking to the press in New York, Deputy President William Ruto said the repatriation of refugees is in line with the declaration of refugees and migrants.
“The repatriation is in line with the New York declaration on refugees and migrants and there is no contradiction on that,” said Ruto.
“We have taken a large burden on matters to do with refugees. We are happy as a country to have a portion of refugees and have no problem with that,” said Ruto.
He further said that the country has no problem with the refugees, but the numbers were the problem.
“If we are left with 5,000 refugees, we would integrate them and find a way of dealing with them. We hope that the other 395,000 refugees can be taken by other countries so that every country can have a share,” he added.
