The number of Nyamira residents suffering from Tuberculosis disease is on the rise in Nyamira County, officer in charge of fighting the disease Felisters Mumo has said.
Mumo claimed that the rise in the number of Nyamira residents suffering TB is because most patients fear going to hospital to be treated in fear of victimization.“
"We have challenges in fighting TB in Nyamira because residents have decided to stay home sick because they fear victimization. TB is not HIV/AIDs and residents should visit health centers to seek medical attention,” said Mumo.
According to Mumo, drugs meant to treat TB have expired in the stores because no patient is going to pick the drugs.
He said the county government of Nyamira under governor Nyagarama’s leadership has invested more on the health sector to ensure residents access good medical care.
The officer promised that health officers will be going round Nyamira County to sensitize locals on the need to seek early treatment for TB.
“We have plans to go round the county to educate our people on the need to visit health centers and have TB treated at its early stages. No one should die from the disease yet we have enough drugs to treat the ailment,” Mumo noted.
