Police in Kisumu are holding a nurse in custody after she was accused of stealing a newborn baby.
The nurse was arrested on Friday after her colleagues from the hospital raised the alarm.
Her colleagues reported the matter to the police after the nurse brought a newborn child for clinic claiming to be the mother yet they had not seen her pregnant.
Kisumu OCPD Christopher Mutune confirmed the arrest adding that investigations had already been launched.
"She was arrested for being in possession of the kid suspected to have been stolen. We will only release her after we have identified what transpired. We will not hesitate to charge her if she is found to have stolen the baby," Mr Mutune was quoted by The Nation.
The infant is currently at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital while the nurse is being held at Kondele Police Station.
