Nurses have been challenged to form one union rather than having the two unions.
Addressing some nurses from various counties on Thursday at Gusii Stadium during the launch of international nurses’ week, the Kisii County governor, James Ongwae challenged the union officials to form one union which can help them to talk in one voice.
Ongwae, who chairs the council's committee on health, labour and social welfare said that forming of one union will help them talk in one voice rather than when they have two unions.
“I would like to urge the union officials to form one union so that it will be easy when you present your grievances in one voice,” said Ongwae.
In addition, Ongwae said that it will hard for officials to form one union since they all need positions but to him, it can work if they form one union.
“I am not saying that when you have two unions you are not heard but I hope if you can let it be one you will always have one voice,” said Ongwae.
The two unions that need to be formed according to the governor are the Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) led by Seth Panyako, and the Progressive Nurses Association led by Thaddeus Mayaka.
