Uasin Gishu government has put on notice nurses who own private clinics saying they will be shown the door.

CeC in charge of Health Services Evelyn Rotich said the nurses were employed to serve residents in public hospitals and not in their private clinics.

“I have received information from the public that there are some nurses absconding their duties only to be found in the private clinics. I want to give a stern warning to such individuals to either reform or be shown the door,” she said in Eldoret town, Saturday.

“I will not just stay mum while our patients are suffering due to lack of quality services, nurses are mandated to be at their place of work as per their job description and operating a private clinic is against the law,” she added.

She revealed that the major cause of lack of drugs in public hospitals is the diverting of drugs to private clinics by the said nurses, who take advantage to steal from the government hospitals.

“Any health officer who will be found stealing public drugs will face the full force of the law, we cannot use millions to purchase drugs for one to sell them,” she noted.

She, however, advised residents to act as their watchdog by reporting any nurse operating a private clinic and also selling drugs meant for the public for them to be fired and replaced with competent ones.
