Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) Secretary General Seth Panyako has disowned the call to end nurses’ strike by his deputy Maurice Odhiambo.

Panyako said Chairman John Bii, his deputy and the assistant Chief Trustee Alice Oreng are not mandated to sign any agreements binding the union on the strike matter.

He said his colleagues' decision to call off the industrial action is driven by greed, since it was done unprocedurally.

"Three out of seven officials have decided to go ahead and declare that the strike has been called off yet they do not have the mandate to do so. I want the whole county to know that the strike is still on until the National Governing Council decides otherwise,” Panyako said in Kakamega on Sunday.

The Ministry of Health and Knun signed a Sh7 billion agreement, which will see nurses receive allowances of between Sh15,000 to Sh20,000, depending on their job group.
