The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) officials from Nandi County branch led by the chairman Mr. Paul Sang have said the nurses’ strike is still on until they receive an official confirmation from their national secretary general Seth Panyako to call it off.
Speaking at a meeting which brought together KNUN officials from Nandi, Sang said the strike still stands and only the secretary general is mandated to call it off.
This comes after Governor Stephen Sang convened a closed-door meeting with nurses in a bid to find solutions for their grievances and it was agreed that the strike was off, but KNUN officials have distanced themselves from the deal given that the meeting wasn’t planned by their leaders.
“We as branch officials we were not invited to the meeting,” said the KNUN Nandi chair.
He added that the sole purpose of the strike was because their CBA wasn’t addressed.
So far nurses across Nandi have gone back to work despite the union leaders’ stand.
