[Photo|,County Government of Kisumu]Uasin Gishu County's Health Department on Wednesday hosted the Nursing Council of Kenya Officials and its board members to deliberate on issues pertaining nurses.One of the main agenda was to ensure standards and regulations in nursing are followed and also strategise on decentralising Nursing Council of Kenya.Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman National Nurses Association of Kenya Alfred Abongo urged the nurses to keep on renewing their practice licences to avoid problems that come up with the same as they deliver. Abongo thanked the county for its continued support in nursing services and encouraged all nurses to go for specialisation refresher courses like renal, theatre nursing and ICU nursing.On her part, the Director Nursing Services Uasin Gishu County, Esther Serem echoed Abongo’s remarks on renewing of licences and promised to support the council in ensuring that all the nurses who have not renewed their licences do so within the time limit given by the council. “Nursing is the heartbeat of healthcare in the County and as a department, we will really work to our best in ensuring that service delivery to the public is met," said Serem.The meeting held at the Eldoret District Hospital also brought on board the Registrar of Nursing Council Edna Tallam and all nursing managerial from the six Sub-counties .
