Nurses lobby group, Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) has threatened to take action against Assumption of Sisters Group and the new management of St. Mary’s Hospitals in Lang’ata and Nakuru for what they termed mistreatment of their members.
Addressing the press conference on Thursday, Secretary General Seth Panyako said that the Assumption of Sisters nuns evicted their members in an inhumane way that will not be tolerated.
“As a union, we must say that we were surprised by the actions that were taken by these Christians of Assumption Sisters by harassing our members and forcefully evicting them from St. Mary’s Hospitals in Lang’ata Nairobi and Elementaita in Nakuru like animals,” Panyako said.
He said that the actions by the new management of the hospital are dictatorial and punitive and therefore, threatened a stern action if the evicted nurses are not reinstated.
“To St. Mary’s Hospitals new management in Lang’ata and Elementaita, you will know that nurses have a representative. You have up to Monday or Tuesday to act otherwise we shall take our nurses back to work,” Panyako warned.
Two different groups had been involved in a row over the management of the mission hospital which culminated in forceful eviction of existing staff.
