The county government of Nakuru has been urged to focus more on nurturing talents at the grassroots level to avert crime among youths.
Speaking on Labor Day when he donated sports items to youth team from Section 58, Nakuru county, former councilor Ndogo Waweru said sports is a devolved function and the County should focus more on nurturing talents at the local level.
According to Councilor Ndogo, if the talents among youths will not be tapped then the society will be in a mess as most of them will start engaging in drugs and substance abuse.
He called on the county governments to emulate the national government that has taken up sports and youths’ matters seriously.
“I want to call on the county governments to emulate the national government to address the issues of youths, sports, and talents so that we can help our youths not to engage in drugs,” he said.
The section 58 Football team is also a team to emulate as it has taken up the initiative to preach peace and shun tribalism by accommodating every tribe including Indians.
Team Captain Mohammed Hussein says the team which started three years ago has numerous challenges and they just hope that more well-wishers will step in to assist nurture their talents.
“We started 3 years back with 7 boys but as per now, we are like 20.However, we have alto of challenges and we hope the county government will step because we know the potential of youths” said the captain.
Similar sentiments echoed by Mohammed Kahero from the Nakuru Town East NGCDF office who said the office will also see on how to partner in supporting the team.
While commending Councilor Ndogo for the gesture Kahero called on the County Government of Nakuru led by Governor Kinyanjui to ensure that sports are taken into consideration.
“I must commend Councilor Ndogo for the good gesture and as Nakuru Town East sports department we will support such.
We also call on Governor Kinyanjui to take sports seriously. We should not focus so much on 2022 politics but we should instead see on how we can help the youths” he said.
