Residents of Nuru Estate in Ngata, Nakuru County have commended the Nyumba Kumi initiative citing improved security in the area.
The residents said the initiative has played a key role with officials overseeing matters of security, development and cohesion and integration.
“We must commend the Nyumba Kumi initiative, since its establishment we have seen improved security in this area,” said one of the residents.
Sentiments echoed by outgoing Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman in the area Pastor Wagalla Hodari.
He said they have embraced the initiative to help curb insecurity, improve residents cohesion and integration because it is a cosmopolitan area.
“We are working together with over 100 residents and we accepted to implement Nyumba Kumi initiative a government project after realizing security starts with us,” he said.
The incoming chair John Ndwiga commended his predecessor for starting the initiative promising to take it to the next level.
Their initiative has been termed as a model for the county where chief, police, area leaders are included in their programmes for inclusiveness.
Area MCA Simon Mwangi said the idea is well thought and needs county government support as it has addressed insecurity in the area and also brought cohesion between different tribes.
“This is a good idea that the county should support. I personally to supplement I will follow up and where necessary raise a motion at the assembly why village elders are yet to be employed as the constitution dictates,” said the MCA.
