Nyachae said that the Gusii community owe nobody an apology for their decision to support and vote for the opposition Cord Presidential candidate Raila Odinga in 2013 General Election.

He has defended the Gusii community over their political stand and support for Odinga in 2013 elections saying it was their democratic right and nobody should politically victimise them for taking that position.

Speaking at Nduru Boys High School, Gucha South sub-county in Kisii County, Nyachae observed that, people should not be haggling over who voted for who or which political party or for which community, instead leaders and Kenyans should focus on issue-based politics and how to bring meaningful development in the country.

"The Gusii community decision in 2013 was to show the community's political position based on the prevailing political mood in the country at that time," observed Nyachae.

Nyachae who was accompanied by Information and Communications Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'I, Kisii Governor James Ongwae and South Mugirango MP,Manson Nyamweya alongside several political leaders from the region, challenged the community and its leaders to consider embracing unity of purpose to spearhead the community's socio-economic and political agenda to the next level.

He however, denied that his push for the Gusii unity was meant to propel him or any of his colleagues to any political position in the region and neither was the call for the community's unity meant to fight the current elected leaders in the region.

"People should not read too much politics when some of us call for unity of the Gusii community, since without unity we cannot achieve much and looking at what is happening across the country, every community is calling for unity among its members and why not the Gusii community?," posed Nyachae.
