The current CJ Will Mutunga will retire after seeking early retirement in June, leading to lobbying for the position by a number of candidates who are yet to express their intentions publically.

Speaking to the reporter on separate phone interviews on Tuesday, former Law Society of Kenya Okong’o Mogeni and Evans Monari hailed Nyachae as an ideal candidate for the position.

“In my view, I will go for Nyachae given his vast experience in practice. He has the required credentials for the position and it’s my wish that he is honoured with the appointment,” Mogeni said.

“The fact that he comes from a small community (Abagusii) and his immense experience makes him an ideal candidate given the geopolitical structures of our country so that we can restore confidence in the judiciary,” Mogeni added.

Monari on his part hailed Nyachae as ‘the chosen one’ citing his achievements as CIC chair as the main reasons for his backing.

“Nyachae deserves a chance to be CJ given his strong stand on matters constitutional. He defended the spirits of the constitution during his tenure as CIC chair and that confirms that he is the chosen one. I will still rally behind him if we are serious of reforming the judiciary,” he said.
