Former CIC chairperson Mr Charles Nyachae has urged embattled IEBC commissioners to resign honorably for the sake of peace in the country.
The commission under the leadership of Mr Isaac Hassan has come under increasing pressure following protests waged against it by the opposition (Cord).
Speaking to the reporter on Tuesday, Mr Nyachae admitted that the ongoing protests could not solve the stalemate but warned into could plunge the country into unprecedented violence.
“I know that article 251 outlines the removal procedure but the situation cannot allow that to happen now and at the same time the protests may not resolve the stalemate,” he said.
“The most honorable thing is that the commissioners should be patriotic enough and resign for the sake of their integrity and dignity to save this country from another possible political chaos,” Nyachae added.
He urged all stakeholders to come together and find the way forward before time elapsed for the best of the country.
“I want to challenge all stakeholders to come together and dialogue on the best way forward. As a matter of fact, an election commission should have commissioners who are accepted across the board for the sake of fairness," said Nyachae.
"This matter can be solved if we bury our political differences and address it from a non-partisan ground,” he said.
He also urged Cord and Jubilee top leadership to allow dialogue before the crisis surrounding the commission escalates to violence.
