Former Constitutional Implementation Committee (CIC) chairman Charles Nyachae has challenged Sam Ongeri to retire from active politics.

Ongeri, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta, ditched Jubilee Party for ODM on Monday and was welcomed by Raila Odinga and Musalia Mudavadi.

Ongeri is set to face Nyachae in senatorial seat contest in August and the two have been engaging in a war of words.

"Ongeri has been in active politics ever since my father (simon Nyachae) joined politics. They are age mates and he should now retire," Nyachae said.

"My father retired 10 years ago and I expect Ongeri to follow suit. We cannot have people denying younger generation chances to lead," added Nyachae.

The former UN Habitat Ambassador has since backed reelection of Kisii governor James Ongwae, contrary to Nyachae's stand, who has been rallying for Chrs Obure.
