Two senior politicians from Gusii have warned that President Uhuru Kenyatta could suffer a humiliating defeat due to his closeness with former powerful Minister Simon Nyachae’s family.
Uhuru appointed Nyachae’s son, Charles Nyachae, as his presidential campaign chairman in the former Nyanza province.
And Manson Oyonko (South Mugirango) says the Nyachae family factor would be an added advantage to opposition team in scramble for Gusii votes.
“I don’t see a scenario where Uhuru picks votes from Gusii just because of Nyachae family. Even in my constituency, people believe that Nyachae senior did nothing while he was serving as a minister,” he told supporters at Nyamarambe on Saturday.
His sentiments are also shared by Nyarangi Moturi, a veteran politician who terms Uhuru’s move to appoint young Nyachae as ‘suicidal’.
“Some things may not work at all due to traditional grudge. Nyachae family cannot deliver for Uhuru and that was a bit suicidal,” said Moturi.
In 2007, the former Gusii political defacto lost tor little known Robert Monda before exiting from active politics.
However, the top leadership has always viewed him as still ‘important’ in Jubilee’s quest to scoop Gusii votes.
