Charles Nyachae, a former Constitutional Implementation Commission chair, was on Friday forced to cut short his speech and run for safety after an irate crowd chanted anti-Jubilee slogans.

Nyachae, who is also an aspiring senator in Kisii County, is the chairperson for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee campaigns in Nyanza.

Addressing people at Menyinkwa in suburbs of Kisii town, the rowdy youths slammed Nyachae when he called for election of Jubilee candidates in Gusii.

“We cannot elect Jubilee affiliated candidates because they have done little to our community. They are cheating Uhuru and August will be the defining moment,” said Elijah Nyakundi, a resident.

The Jubilee Party suffered a setback in Gusii politics last week when political protagonist Sam Ongeri joined ODM party.

Also, the Jubilee campaign team has been facing hostility across the county with the most recently being in a by election at Nyacheki last year, where an ODM candidate won.

However, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s camp received a major boost on Sunday when Kisii County MP defected from ODM party.

“I feel that I am at home. You cannot work with people who have little regard for you. I am confident that I will deliver the seat for Jubilee,” she said.
