The Nyacheki ward by-election in Bobasi constituency, Kisii County will no doubt be a litmus test for the ruling Jubilee and Cord, as both coalitions gear up for the 2017 general election.
The seat was left vacant following the death of area member of county assembly, Peter Ongeri of ODM.
The IEBC has scheduled the by-election for October 25, and is most likely to be a Jubilee versus Cord affair.
During the burial of Ongeri several weeks ago, a section of speakers proposed that his wife contests the seat left vacant by her late husband.
The campaign which is likely to kick off soon will pit Cord against Jubilee as each coalition tests the ground for next year's poll.
A section of residents who spoke to this writer in Kisii town said they want an election where they will choose a leader who will transform the ward.
“It was not our wish to lose our MCA but it has happened. We wish to have a free and fair election to choose a leader who will transform the region by in terms of development," said Obwaya Dominic.
